Jacobo Alcalde Gibert (1990), studied at the Complutense University, the Arauco Foundation (as a scholarship recipient) under Guillermo Muñoz Vera, and in Antonio López’s workshop. He approaches painting in a very primitive way. He is captivated by the same wonders that fascinated the cave-dwelling humans: the marvel of fire, which he has depicted in volcanic scenes, and its dance, whose luminous traces the old masters attempted to capture with the charred remnants of its passage; the familiarity with the Universe and animals, whose dignity he questions by exploring their scale and proximity; and the numinous nature of reproduction itself, radically distinct from what is reproduced.
