In her body of work, Ximena allude to the social divisions between colonial and vernacular cultures through symbolic forms. Recording and representing the use of local resources, she tracks the cycles of economic, environmental and aesthetic transformation as distillations of power and resistance around the changes in the use and sequestration of basic facilities. The works are thus anthropological artifacts, monuments to the customs and communities, and celebrations of the ingenuity of the individuals facing the continuous modernization of the landscape.
Ximena is currently on view with a solo show at the Sao Paulo Biennial and preparing a project with the Wattis Institute in San Francisco. Her most recent exhibitions include: Orange County Musum of Art (OCMA); Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA), USA; Proyecto AMIL, Lima (Seleccionada entre las mejores exposiciones del 2019 por Art Forum); Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires; among many others.
