Elena Tejada-Herrera invited two tango teachers and a friend to dance tango and play soccer. The performance displays de process of learning tango and practicing soccer. In the performance, the rules are broken because within the traditional tango the man leads and the woman follows. Here there are only women dancing and exchanging roles. This is following a new popular practice in Argentina called Tango queer. The rules of soccer are also taken very loosely. The music displays pieces that go from proto-tango (which precedes tango) to electronic tango, after Astor Piazzolla’s formal innovations. Elena interviewed people at milongas, and was welcomed by Argentinians with a lot of warmth. Thus, she learned about the relationship between the history of tango and the history of social movements and their relation to tango in Argentina.This is not present in the video, but it was a source of inspiration to understand the nature of tango steps.
