La obra de Florian Steiner (1936–2022) ocupa un lugar singular dentro de las artes visuales de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, tanto por su enfoque humanista como por su experimentación técnica. Viajero incansable y políglota, profundamente fascinado por la cultura japonesa, hizo del desplazamiento una forma de conocimiento y de encuentro con el otro. Sus recorridos por Europa, América Latina, Asia y África dieron origen a un acervo centrado en la vida cotidiana, donde la cámara opera como un instrumento de proximidad: establece relaciones de confianza con quienes retrata y revela una profunda empatía hacia sus protagonistas. Influida por el lenguaje del cine —la secuencia, el ritmo, la narración—, su producción trasciende el registro documental para convertirse en una reflexión sobre la condición humana, en la que memoria, dignidad y poesía confluyen para afirmar el poder de la imagen como testimonio y forma de permanencia.

Esta selección reúne los monotipos de fotolitograbados que Steiner realizó entre 1960 y 1973, presentados en Bogotá en 1985 en la Galería El Callejón de la Librería Central.

The work of Florian Steiner (1936–2022) holds a singular place within the visual arts of the second half of the twentieth century, both for its humanist approach and its technical experimentation. A tireless traveler and polyglot, deeply fascinated by Japanese culture, he made displacement a form of knowledge and of encounter with others. His journeys through Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa gave rise to a body of work centered on everyday life, where the camera operates as an instrument of proximity: it builds relationships of trust with those it portrays and reveals a profound empathy toward its subjects. Shaped by the language of cinema —sequence, rhythm, narration— his work transcends documentary record to become a reflection on the human condition, one in which memory, dignity, and poetry converge to affirm the power of the image as testimony and as a form of permanence.

This selection brings together the photolithograph monotypes Steiner created between 1960 and 1973, presented in Bogotá in 1985 at the Galería El Callejón of the Librería Central.
