Francesc Rosselló (B. 1994, Mallorca) is an artist based in Mallorca, Spain. He studied a BA in Fine art at the University of Barcelona between 2012 and 2016. Francesc Rosselló’s bright and bold work is greatly influenced by the fact that he is colour-blind. Counterintuitively, this has birthed an obsession with colour for the artist; his bold and graphic compositions almost hum with vibrancy. Influenced by the language of illustration, alongside comic books and manga, his works tell fantastical stories in snippets, hinting to the viewer the before and after that might have led to each scene. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, the landscapes pictured, whether urban or natural, are often the protagonists of the works. He uniquely intermingles the settings and figures to suggest passing moments in time shaped considerably by the environs within which they took place. His work also reveals an intense fascination with the history of painting. Including classical references such as busts and columns, he toys with motifs from the renaissance and beyond. Similarly, his subject matter often touches on timeless human concerns such as the mythological idea of man in nature, hinting at the Enlightenment notion of the sublime but positioning it within a modern-day context. Recent solo exhibitions include: 5 minutos más y ya vuelvo (Galería Pelaires, Palma, Mallorca, Spain); I miss you (only on Fridays) Ok, on Saturdays too! (Horrach Moyà Gallery, Palma, Mallorca, 2021); CREPUSCULUM (TACA Gallery, Palma, 2019); Societat Animal (Vilafranca de Bonany, Majorca, 2015).
