‘Rays of Sunlight from South America’ is based on a speculative relationship between vector technology and railroad lines in Peru. The railroad was a symbol of progress and national modernization, which was funded in part by guano exports from the islands of the Pacific coast. This manure solved the problem of soil fertility that hindered the development of large industrial cities, mainly English and North American, and the expansion of capitalism.
