YUMA DÍAZ
Malinali Yuma García Díaz
Mexican painter from Guelatao, Oaxaca
Weaver of Universes, Voice of Community. The Collective Returns.
Yuma Díaz, originally from the mystical town of Guelatao, Oaxaca, is a painter whose art bridges ancestral heritage with contemporary expression. Though she initially studied Communications, her true artistic calling emerged in 2012. In a moment of deep introspection, Yuma sought guidance on her path. The answer came as three shooting stars converged in the night sky, affirming her destiny as a painter.
Yuma's work is deeply influenced by Mexico's indigenous cultures. She sees herself as a inheritor of and a voice for the artisans and artists who came before her. Her art is infused with the Toltec worldview and the rich Zapotec tradition of "flor y canto" (flower and song), masterfully woven into every brushstroke.
"My art reflects life's inherent coherence, celebrating the heritage and memory that resonate within us," Yuma states. "Through dreamlike photography in oil and acrylic on canvas, I aim to translate the profound symbolic will found in the Toltec creation myth. Each brushstroke is an act of weaving, connecting invisible threads of ancient knowledge with visions emerging from our collective essence. My canvases are portals where dreams and reality intertwine, inviting viewers to explore the richness of the Toltec worldview and connect with the wisdom that precedes us. It's a tribute to life, to continuous cycles, and to the communal spirit that unites us, hoping to awaken in the viewer the resonance of their own ancestral essence."
